Midweek Playoff Pickup’s

Oleh Kosel

I compiled a quick list of some guys who might be of use in the short term to help your teams this week.  Hopefully everyone is already aware of guys like Toney Douglas, Jrue Holiday and Anthony Tolliver.  Good luck!

Matt Bonner (PF, C – 7%) – His role has increased a bit of late so he could help the deeper league team in a few cat’s but mainly 3’s.

James Harden (PG, SG – 26%) – see Phil’s article.

Chris Hunter (SF/PF/C – 2%) – As Golden State’s only true center still standing, expect Chris to see decent time down the stretch.  On his productive nights, expect points (on great FG%), boards and an occasional block.

Serge Ibaka (C – 5%) – He’s playing with a lot of confidence right now and can help you with boards/blocks.

Kyle Lowry (PG/SG – 9%) – As his ankle has strengthened, he’s gone back to being more effective again.  In addition, Battier continues to miss time to a hyper extended knee.  Kyle will help with points, assists and steals.

Jason Maxiell (PF/C – 23%) – Don’t let his last game scare you off as he got into foul trouble.  By many accounts, Ben Wallace is done so Max will get a lot of run putting up great boards with decent points/blocks.

Wesley Matthews (PG/SG – 12%)/CJ Miles (SG/SF – 13%) – Points, 3’s and steals available here but expectations should be tempered a bit as Andrei Kirilenko is slated to return Friday.

Darko Milicic (PC/C – 12%) – Over his last 4 games, he’s averaging just over 30 minutes.  Boards/blocks are good with decent points and FG%.

James Singleton (SF/PF – 8%) – Flip just stated he’s going to be inserted into the starting lineup.  He’s a rebounding machine but can help in points and defensive categories on certain nights.  Must add for those looking for boards as he’s got a very fantasy friendly schedule down the stretch.

Bill Walker (SG/SF – 8%) – Juicy matchup against PHO and going forward the Knicks play 10 games with Wilson Chandler still sidelined and Tracy McGrady always ready to go down.  With decent run, he’s usually good for points, 3’s and steals.

Earl Watson (PG – 19%) -  TJ Ford continues to miss games so Earl could be a good source of assists/steals with a 3 or two.  However, do so as a last resort as Ford is slated to be back any day now.

Reggie Williams (SF – 19%) – Nellie loves anyone who can put the ball in the hoop and currently Reggie is converting at a very efficient clip (sorry Anthony Morrow owners).  Get his scoring (on good percentages), 3’s and rebounds while he’s still hot!

I really wanna pick up reggie williams and possibly Harden, who do i drop or can i drop of these guys?

kevin love, brad miller, earl watson, jerebko, kendrick perkins, marvin williams….?

harden for earl watson? since as stated above Ford is coming back?

I’m in a bye until monday.

    • Redhopeful Says:

TY – can you list the rest of your team plus league categories? It’ll help determine which guy you should let go…

  • John-o Says:

It’ll help to know if he’s in a daily/weekly lineup H2H or Roto league.

My gut says Brad Miller, but he’s valuable in daily lineup H2H since the Bulls play 3 games on “light game days” over the next 2 weeks.

  • Andrew Says:

Bucks forward Carlos Delfino was injured late in the second quarter Friday night and had to be wheeled off the floor on a gurney.

Delfino made a drive to the hoop and fell to the floor with his face down, and he was accidentally stepped on by Miami forward Udonis Haslem as the Heat player went up for the rebound.

Really sucks for me, as I’m in a very close matchup this week. That aside, it could mean very big minutes for Ersan (out with the flu right now), especially as Bogut’s got back problems.

  • TY Says:

Daily transactions, H2H, 10 teams, normal roster, but 2 centers, 3 utilitys, 5 bench spots! wild cats, fgm, fg%, ftm, ft%, 3ptm, 3pt%, PTS, off reb, TOTrebs, ast, stls, blks, TO’s and PF’s…. 14 cats total. Sorry for not listing, i appreciate any help, here’s my roster:

    jkidd
    kobe
    aaron Brooks
    Lebron
    Marvin williams
    b. lopez
    kendr. perkins
    david lee
    earl watson
    jerbko
    rasual butler
    beasley
    brad miller
    dalembert
    k-love
    jameer nelson

    THANKS!

  • Andrew Says:

What exactly are you asking TY?

  • TY Says:

there’s only 6 posts on this thread, you were 3 of them? You didn’t read the other 3? i was listing my team b/c red asked for it to better help with my Q above…. but its basically too late now a guy is trying everything in his power to make the playoffs and is dropping and picking up like crazy, just snagged reggie williams and wesley matthews…..

    • Andrew Says:

Lol sorry, I didn’t connect your two posts. Reggie might cool off (had a bad game today), but I’m banking on him as well. Wesley’s very hit & miss – like Beaubois. Both can put in huge games, but you can’t be sure they’ll see the ball much (or even the court in Beaubois’ case) in subsequent games…

    • Redhopeful Says:

Sorry TY, been really busy. I think you’ll be fine with your lineup but as Andrew mentioned, Brad Miller could be worth replacing (with Noah gaining steam). Who else is left on the WW?

  • TY Says:

Ya i need to make a couple moves I think. I dont know who i’m playing yet either, two guys are duking it out today on suday. One will compete with my bigs, the other wont…. but other FA’s include: villanueva, james harden, morrow, hickson, beaubois worth a look?, pargo, reggie williams was dumped now available march 30th, wesley matthews same deal, Ilyasova…. not the greatest, like i stated above its only a 10 teamer but we have deep benches, most FA’s are gone… especially the hot ones during playoff time! THanks for any help you guys can give, i gotta make some moves tonight to gear up for next week!

  • Andrew Says:

If Williams is available I like him, especially if you make the grand final week. Ilyasova has a good schedule going in, and Beaubois has 4 games next week (though who knows what his PT will be?).

Hickson’s doing alright lately, but is prone to vanishing and doesn’t have a lot of games ahead. CV’s a waste of space, Harden is hit & miss like Matthews and Pargo.

  • TY Says:

ya channing frye is available too, i had him all year, then he became worthless lately, and now Lopez is hurting (bulging disk) i’m jumping on frye as of now and then williams when he comes off waivers…. i think channing is a must add, yahoo note says lopez is missing the next 5 games on the road trip….

  • TY Says:

and wow, what happened with kevin love tonight? 23/22? lets hope that keeps up for the rest of the year!

  • TY Says:

sorry for another post but kendrick perkins is sitting, 2 games in a row now, do you see him getting rested big time? worth a drop to get someone who WONT be rested???

  • Yao Says:

Wow both my teams are officially in the Finals. I won my money league 5-4 by 7 points. I was up by over 80 points going into today, he picked up Haslem last night, and I had Beasley…I was so mad at him I almost dropped him today lol.

  • Yao Says:

It came down to Durant and Westbrook against Roy and Ibaka lol…Thabo saved my ass by locking down Roy for the second half and Durant has been my savior all year, he never fails, I think hes my second favorite player now behind Kobe.

  • Andrew Says:

I’m still alive as well. Coming up against the #1 team in the semis though, and I don’t much like my chances. Surprised to have gotten this far though :)

  • TY Says:

I’m still rolling and i’m playing an owner in the semi’s i match up well vs. I’d like to drop perkins for Ersan Ilysova? Go with it? reggie williams comes off waivers tomm? put in a waiver request for him? No one seems to have barely used theirs this year so i’m not worried with only 4 teams left competing….. see above for my roster…

    • Redhopeful Says:

Perkins is slated to be back Wednesday. A little rest might do him good for the blocks/boards. I’d think you’d be better off losing inconsistent Marvin for Reggie Williams.

  • TY Says:

marvin williams hasn’t done anything for 4 games now either, drop him for reggie williams?

  • TY Says:

Ya or i was gonna say BUSER just made a post on yahoo about every game, how many each team has this week, next week, etc…..

  • TY Says:

dropping marvin for barbosa since reggie williams doesn’t play tuesday, then praying no one else has a waiver priority in for reggie and snaggin him up for weds….

  • Andrew Says:

Having heard how Thornton’s still injured & Flip Saunders saying they’d keep Gee, I decided to play him this week. This morning I hear that no, the Wiz have let him go.

Oh well, it was a good finals run while it lasted :\

    • Redhopeful Says:

Was odd for the Wizards since they wanted to keep him and play him. Can’t blame him though as he wanted to go to San Antonio and more importantly have security for next season.

      • Andrew Says:

Yeah it was obviously a case of the coach wanting one thing and the front office something else. I just wish they’d announced it a day earlier ;)

  • Yao Says:

Pick up Noah if hes still available, I gambled on him tonight, was a good call.

  • TY Says:

pick 2 of 4 to start tonight,
    beasley @ DET
    frye @ NJ
    Ilyasova @ CLE
    reggie williams @ UTAH

i like the hot players better in some, and the matchups in the other, can’t decide….thanks

    • Redhopeful Says:

Leaning towards Beasley and Williams. Jermaine O’Neal is out and I know Michael has been putting in extra work in getting back on track. Nothing like a meatless Pistons in the middle. Reggie gets the nod because he’s been very nice of late no matter the matchup.

    • Andrew Says:

I’d favour Williams and Ilyasova. Ersan’s been in hot form lately, and CLE don’t have great defence at PF, especially with Varejao out.

To be honest any or all of the four players could do well though.

  • Andrew Says:

2 days to go, losing my semi-final 3-5. Opponent has two more games than I do & more star players, so my chances are incredibly slim.

How’s everyone else doing? Any grand final berths booked?

  • Yao Says:

woot, won both my leagues this year!!

  • TY Says:

in the finals in my league, had to pull out an Huge Flopski on sunday to sneak by, even tho my team is the dominant team… We’ll have to see what happens in the final weeks here! two week h2h battle…..

  • John-o Says:

Shaun Livingston saved my bacon on Sunday. In addition Serge Ibaka + Toney Douglas = win (I drafted these two in my dynasty league)

My league is just now entering the final week. I’ve basically set up my team to go stream-crazy this week by loading up on Kings and Nuggets. I can only hope that Casspi gets minutes or my plan will backfire.

My only regret this year is reading that article about Wright and drafting him instead of Taj Gibson.

    • Redhopeful Says:

Ugh, sorry about that John-O. My best explanation is he upset someone in Louisiana who practices voodoo.

On the other hand, like you, I’m hoping to ride TD and Livingston in a very competitive league for the championship!

Some other guys to keep an eye on:

Cleveland backups – both Jamison and James look like they’ll get extra rest in near future. J. Williams, Moon, Hickson and Powe will likely have their moments.

Ersan Ilyasova – like him more than Kurt Thomas to pick up the slack with Bogut’s injury

Larry Hughes – scary thought but SJax could see some significant down time to make sure he’s ready for CHA’s playoff run

Mo Evans – JJ is slated to miss next 2 games

Thad Young – might be on WW – expect him back either tonight or next game

      DEEPER LEAGUE:

Earl Barron – Harrington and Lee are a bit banged up so he could squeeze out some productive minutes

      Who else you guys got?

      • John-o Says:

Actually I went to KU so I was high on him for no reason what-so-ever (he lacked basketball IQ at Kansas)… sort of like DeMar DeRozan (my second worst decision so far this year).

I like Dragic since the Suns are about to lock down 4th place in the West (they own the tie-breakers). If they get home court Nash is going to get benched to rest his back.

I also have Gortat since Howard is 1 game away from earning a suspension. In the games that Gortat starts he’s 10/12 with 3 blocks. Plus the Magic may just shut down DHo since the Magic are basically a lock for their playoff position.

      • John-o Says:

Did you have Barron started on Tuesday Night? If you did I think you should get some sort of award for being psychic…

  • TY Says:

can i drop lebron? will he play weds? OR NOT? help me out asap!

  • TY Says:

really need some help here, lebron a go or no go for weds? kinda ridiculous these teams benching superstars the last games, i’d be ticked if i bought a ticket!

  • John-o Says:

Assuming daily-lineup H2H there has to be a better option out there. Even if Bron does play he won’t get enough minutes to offset the risk of the goose-egg. Go with a player that is going to start.

I feel your pain though. I have Kobe and he’s murdering me this week. I am rooting for the Nuggets to win today so the Mavs don’t shut it down on Wednesday.

  • John-o Says:

    Dynasty League question…

Which 2 of the following players would you carryover to the next year? (alphabetical order)

    A.J. Price
    Amir Johnson
    C.J. Watson
    Chris Duhon
    DeMar DeRozan
    Earl Barron
    Ian Mahinmi
    Larry Hughes
    Marcin Gortat
    Omri Casspi
    Raja Bell
    Ramon Sessions
    Shane Battier
    Shaun Livingston
    Thabo Sefolosha
    Toney Douglas
    Tyson Chandler

  • Yao Says:

Livingston for sure, and maybe Douglas or Casspi

    • Redhopeful Says:

Yeah – I think I agree with Yao here. Livingston showed he is back and will be rewarded will a new contract. Granted it all depends on who signs him as he might have to be a backup, but I think he’s got a good shot to be a starter for someone.

The other guy would be Casspi. Watching him play, he’s got the talent and instincts to be a fine productive player.

  • John-o Says:

Cool I went with those guys…

I really like Amir Johnson though. If Bosh leaves Canada then I’m targeting Amir with my #1 draft selection.

It’s impossible to know which one of the 10,000 NCAA draft-declared players not named Wall is going to pan out. I’ve got the last pick in the first round of the next draft.

I just read that Casspi’s agent is fishing for a trade to put him on a team that can help him mature. Hopefully he ends up on the Knicks.
