RedHopeful: Thanks, Red. I had to search high and low for that quote but it describes the situation perfectly.

PW: That is one thing I am alluding to but not outright saying in the post. Pop, Duncan and the boys can still turn everything around and salvage their defense this season if everything goes perfectly. If if doesn't, this is going to go down as the worst defensive Spurs squad of the Duncan era. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

Important note - Spurs had a similar middle of the pack D-rating last season about halfway through the year and then worked their way to finish 5th in the league. Hopefully, the new players will learn/adapt and the D-rating will improve again.

Well done, Phil! The article only managed to find it's way onto True Hoops Bullet's this morning: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/11853/wednesday-bullets-144.

I love Pop's line about the loss of corporate knowledge. Will be interesting to see if the numbers do change...
